Blood & Bone Marrow Cancer Specialists
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, or if you have a concern about a possible diagnosis, make an appointment at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. It’s important to be evaluated by cancer experts before beginning treatment.
The Karmanos Bone Marrow & Stem Cell Transplant (BMT) Program was the first transplant center in Michigan. Today, it is one of the largest programs of its kind in the United States having performed more than 1,300 transplants in the last five years.
Bone marrow transplantations are used to treat patients with:
- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)
- Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML)
- Aplastic anemia
- Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML)
- Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Multiple myeloma
- Myelodysplastic syndrome
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
Karmanos’ BMT Program is one of only a few centers nationwide reporting some of the best survival outcomes for related and unrelated stem cell transplantation, according to data released by the Center for International Bone Marrow Transplant Research. It is also accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), signifying the highest standards of practice in the transplantation of stem cells.
Recognized as leaders for blood and marrow transplantations, our program takes the role of helping develop new therapies for tomorrow’s patients, serious. Karmanos participated in the pivotal study that lead to the FDA approval of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (DLBCL). Currently, we offer all FDA-approved CAR T-cell therapies.
At the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, you can be confident that you’re in expert hands at one of the nation's top cancer centers.
